It’s been bought to my attention today is Joni Mitchell’s birthday (thank you Ganesha Girl.).
I‘m not a rabid fan of Joni Mitchell but there is one of her albums I have a particular fondness for. That album is The Hissing of Summer Lawns which was released round about the time I was fifteen or sixteen. It seems odd to me in retrospect that a fifteen year old boy would go out and buy a Joni Mitchell record but it still holds up (for me) and I still think some of the songs are simply amazing. The music has a beautiful haunting, ethereal quality and the lyrics are really compact interesting character studies.
Joni Mitchell is 77 today! It just doesn’t seem possible but here are some live performances of songs off that album I think you’ll enjoy:
And a classic not off that album:

Interesting juxtaposition of Joni.
She is measured, composed, made up in the Hissing of Summer Lawn videos. She looks good, in control, her hair coiffed. But in Big Yellow Taxi, as well as the others I sent, I For Free and California) she is wearing that impossible pink twee dress and her hair is just long, blonde, parted in the middle and she is just full of passion and talent and the je ne said quoi of brillance. Interesting measure of the changing times. 77 and lived through it all, cheers to you Joni.
(Yeah, I'm a fan, guilty)
